I was away all holidays.
Term 1 was alright. Thankfully it went quite fast. Our first term of being year 10s was actually different than I thought it would be. I found it to be quite similar to year 9 although we are a lot more settled in now than we were last year. Some things are still quite repetitive like doing reflections but it’s quite fun having more options and knowing how the school works.
I think some of my favourite things this term were having Jordan from Attitude come in and talk to us again. He’s really funny and we get to miss class which is always good. Also I’m really enjoying enterprise. It’s different to any other class and I enjoy the work. Something I don’t really like is Spanish. I chose it for my option because I was good at it last year but I have found that this year it is really boring and repetitive. I find it hard to pay attention and I would of rather done something like Graphics.
This year has also been interesting because we have a new tutor teacher and classroom. At first the new teacher wasn’t too popular because she wouldn’t let us have phones or iPods out but I think we are getting used to her. Also we won the Athletics day at the start of the term which everyone in Auaha was quite pleased about including our new Whanau leader, Mr Richardson. Overall it has been a good term and I am looking forward to a good year at A.C.Lauren :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/08140604634932017971noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688877002443290079.post-33754670162419557822012-03-27T01:19:00.000-07:002012-03-27T01:19:28.792-07:00My Voki :)<object height="400" width="300" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0" id="widget_name">Lauren :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/08140604634932017971noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688877002443290079.post-58663479945963957542012-03-20T03:04:00.000-07:002012-03-20T03:04:26.169-07:00Sweet Little Lies Book ReviewThe book I'm currently reading is called Sweet Little Lies by reality show star Lauren Conrad. Although I have not finished the book I am currently enjoying it and eager for more. The book is the second of the series and is about 2 girls that have moved to Los Angeles and are on a reality show called L.A Candy.
It isn't an extremely long book but it's still quite interesting and so far a good read.

In the book the main characters are Jane Roberts and Scarlett Harp and it shows the readers that fame isn't always fun and there are consequences. Especially when nothing stays secret for long. It explains in detail what reality shows are really like. Lauren Conrad, once the star of popular Tv show 'The Hills', is now one of the New York Times bestselling authors and she does a great job writing this entertaining novel about Hollywood. Sweet Little Lies is the second book so if you are interested you will want to firstly read L.A Candy- the first book of the series. I am yet to read the final book (Sugar and Spice) but it will no doubt but just as great as the first 2.

Even though this book involves drinking, drug use, sexual references, backstabbing friends and swearing I still think it is a good book to read. It mostly appeals to teenage girls maybe even younger. For some it may not be appropriate but if you look past those things it does teach some good lessons. It is a guilty pleasure book that is full of fun details and scandalous drama. I think it is a worthwhile book to read.
Rating 4/5 :)Lauren :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/08140604634932017971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688877002443290079.post-76826363655325476742012-03-13T01:28:00.002-07:002012-03-20T00:49:38.914-07:00KonySo if you're on Facebook then you will probably know who Joseph Kony is and why he is all of a sudden famous. For those who don't know, Kony is the leader of guerrilla group the LRA or Lord's Resistance Army. He says he is the spokesperson of God. He also believes in Polygamy and is said to have had over 80 wives. Initially the group had lots of support but then the LRA turned on the supporters and attempted to make Uganda into a theocracy. Kony abducts children and turns them into child soldiers and sex slaves. The LRA has about 66,000 child soldiers now. The LRA operates in Uganda, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Central African Republic. Because of his crimes he is first on the International Criminal Court's list of the world's worst criminals.

Until a short time ago few people had even heard of Kony. A video called 'Kony 2012' made by Invisible Children Inc. was put on the internet on March 12th and went viral. It now has over 74 million views. The video informed everyone on who Kony is and the terrible things he does. Invisible Children Inc. sell action packs, bracelets and posters to bring awareness to Kony and help him known so he can be arrested. Also many celebrities have become involved with the campaign. Because no one knows who he is the American government don't think he is worth looking for.

Even though everyone has only just heard about Kony he has been around since 1986. Since then around 2 million people have been internally displaced. Kony has many times proposed peace and then attacked again to maintain his power. The LRA is constantly getting bigger. Because of 9/11 the American government consider the LRA a terrorist group. Kony is very religious and says he is fighting for the Ten Commandments. He thinks he is doing good while others consider him to be the devil. Because of the Kony 2012 video there is now a higher chance of him being arrested for all of crimes.
I mostly did things with my friends as well as going to cheerleading trainings and going to Papamoa. Since we were stopping cheerleading practice for the Christmas break we decided to all go to the beach for an end of year thing. We went biscuiting and on the boat. It was really fun. After having an awesome Christmas, my family and friend's family went to Papamoa for a holiday. The weather was really good and we went swimming and tanning a lot. Surprisingly I never got sunburnt.

After I got back I spent the rest of the holidays with my mates. We did lots of fun things like swimming, taking photos, going shopping, relaxing, movies and sleepovers. After lots of late nights and sleeping all day, we had cheerleading trials. It was quite strange training again after a lot of relaxing but I got into the cheer team I was hoping to get in. We are now practising our routine for when we compete in Hawaii. I also went to Splurge, laser tag, the beach and more. My holidays were amazing :)
It is not as scary as it seems. On the first few days of Term 1 you will be in your tutor class so don’t bother bringing books yet. Your tutor is a class you will have 3 times a week with people in your house. It helps you connect with people and make friends. After a few days you will feel more comfortable and begin you normal classes. You will be put in a year 9 class and given your timetable. After the first week you will get more familiar with AC and how it works. You’ll find out that it is not a scary as it may seem.

Once you have settled into your new class you will get more homework and instead of being in one classroom like at intermediate you will have lots of different classes. The homework you get might be harder and there is more of it but it is easy. If you don’t hand in your assessments you will most likely get an ROL which is basically detention. So make sure to finish your school work on time but don’t worry because you can write it down in your diary. Each student will get a Whanau coloured diary which you can write reminders in. It is also where teachers can give you commendations and excuse you from class so make sure to hold onto it.

Also when you come to AC you will be put into a whanau/house. Either Auaha (best house) Kaitataki, Tirohanga, Kaitoro or Whainga. Whanau are very competitive at Alfriston so you want to get as many points as you can by receiving commendations and participating in interwhanau competitions. Just because you are year 9 doesn’t mean you can’t compete in sports and activities. Do your best and try out for teams and participate. It’s really fun. Also remember to follow the school rules and wear the correct uniform. AC is pretty strict on uniform so be sure to wear what you are supposed to. High school is not as scary as it sounds. It is actually really interesting with more opportunities so just have fun.
Lauren :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/08140604634932017971noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688877002443290079.post-71451755302914851762011-11-01T20:40:00.001-07:002011-11-01T20:40:13.806-07:00Free Rice

Lauren :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/08140604634932017971noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688877002443290079.post-35856422262311387932011-10-24T02:08:00.001-07:002011-11-01T20:36:07.687-07:00If I was in charge of the school.
If I was in charge of our school I would replace Module and Tutor time with a different class. All students will get a free period and an option class instead. Most of the time not many people like their module/tutor class so the should have a different class that they enjoy. Then there would be less students wagging school as well.

Another change I would make is to the uniform. I would make it more comfortable. Currently our uniform and P.E gear is made from itchy material that is not pleasant to wear. I would make the P.E shorts made from a stretchier athletic fabric. As well as making the skirt softer. Then students would be more comfortable at school.

I would also use extra school funds to give away free ice blocks in the summer and free hot chocolate in winter. This will benefit students because some don’t eat while they are at school so free snacks will give them a boost and make them more willing to learn.

Finally I would organise activities and more things to do at lunch times as well as making them longer. 30 minutes isn’t enough time for breaks and there should be more things to do such as a computer room where no websites are blocked or sports games. That would make breaktimes more fun. If I was in charge I would make these changes to make school a more enjoyable place.
Lauren :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/08140604634932017971noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688877002443290079.post-8250907304358656162011-10-24T00:40:00.001-07:002011-10-24T00:40:52.468-07:00Bouncy Slide in Rotorua :)

Lauren :)http://www.blogger.com/profile/08140604634932017971noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688877002443290079.post-16722513368250564552011-09-27T02:34:00.001-07:002011-09-29T18:13:03.411-07:00Make it or Break it Review:
Make it or Break it is a popular TV show which follows the lives of 4 elite gymnasts named Payson, Kaylie, Lauren and Emily. The series is aimed at teenagers showing them what it is like to be a serious athlete as well as teaching good lessons that teenagers can relate to in everyday life. Many parents call it inapropriate because of some of the mild language, sexual references and alcohol although it teaches good values and is quite inspirational for many girls around the age of 12 and up. Although it is considered not appropriate I throughly enjoy this show and watch it every week. I am a fan of gymnastics so I can definitly relate to it.

When the show aired on June 22nd 2009 it was an instant hit having over 2.5 million viewers. So far they have made 2 seasons with a 3rd one in the making. The show’s concept, which was created by Holly Sorenson, is very unique and teaches young women to chase their dream and strive to achieve their goals. The actors also portray their characters very well. It is not only inspirational but also dramatic, informative, funny and packed with amazing gymnastics skills.
It is based on a supposedly true story. The movie follows a fictional family called the Campbells as they move into a house( which was formerly a mortuary)in order to be closer to where their teenage son receives cancer treatments. The family soon becomes haunted by violent events from supernatural forces occupying the house. This movie had me hiding behind my pillow in fear. Some scenes were quite thrilling although I am a big fan of horror movies and the storyline as well as the effects had my eyes glued to the screen.

The Haunting in Connecticut was a moderately successful film at the box office making around $77 million. The ‘Haunted House’ movie in particular has been done to death but having said that, the movie did not fail to scare. The actors, sound effects and freaky make up maintained a consistent level of chills throughout the movie.
